Celebrating the life of

Henry Durant "Dee" Tullis, Jr.

December 12, 1931 - January 29, 2017

Henry Durant

Henry Durant “Dee” Tullis, Jr, Savannah, Ga passed away in his home surrounded by his wife and children on Sunday morning January 29, 2017.

Want to make a shrimp net, build a home, make impressive cross stitch or simply play a great game of golf?  Dee Tullis was always available for any of this and more, with a warm smile and tons of encouragement.  Born in Savannah as the son of Henry D. Tullis, Sr and Lucille Moore Tullis, Dee was the definition of a “true” southern gentleman.  After graduating from Savannah High school in 1950, Dee remained in Savannah for the remainder of his life except for a stint in the US Navy (1952-1955).  Dee graduated from Armstrong State College in 1968 with a degree in Business Administration.  Dee focused on family and church while working at Union Camp until he retired in 1992.  Dee was a member of several golf communities in Savannah, including Savannah Golf seniors and Bacon Park seniors.  However, Dee’s church affiliations with Bull Street Baptist church and Wilmington Island Baptist church were the foundation of his strong Christian faith.

Dee passed away at home surrounded by his wife and children. Dee is survived by his wife, Marilyn Steadwell Tullis, of 64 years and three children: Lynn Tullis Grabe (Hendrik) of Atlanta, T. Leigh Tullis of Savannah and Henry D. Tullis III (E’Lane) of Atlanta.  He is also survived by three grandchildren: Jessica L Johnson of Savannah, Ens. Henry D. Tullis IV of Norfolk and Katherine R Tullis of Atlanta.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.

The memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be private.

Dee was a big man with a big heart. Completely devoted to his Family. As each task or errand he gave me to do I was humbled by his wit and charm.
